Story of
Success
Dear visitor of our website:
Now we have completed our 1st Post Graduate Course of
Hepatology we would like to share our story of success with you.
The story started years ago when the Endemic Medicine Department was
founded, the study of liver disease was among its main interests
& was always our example of collaboration, scientific update, good
intentions & persistence to achieve. This is how our professors
started & how we are continuing.
Preparation for this course started 2008 when Prof s Ayman Yousry
and Gamal Esmat recruited senior & junior staff members to
participate forming a scientific committee & an administrative one
with the involvement of conference organizing bureau.
The scientific committee was responsible for contacting foreign
professors, receiving their approval for the different topics
allocated to each of them, adapting the flow of session to their
interests & time schedule.
The scientific committee was also responsible for contacting the
moderators of each session for preparing case presentation, revising
them & receiving suggestions of the Panelists. Making sure of
coverage of most hot topics in an updated & simplified manner
The course was held on 10-12th October 2009, at the Kasr
Al AINI hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, Conference
Hall, 12 foreign professors actively participated, they were from
Italy, USA, UK, Belgium, in collaboration with the EASL & AASLD,
presented the most updated lectures .
The Course was supported by Academy of
Scientific Research and Technology during the Egyptian-Italian year
of Science & Technology in collaboration with the Italian Embassy.
The course offered the Credit hours (14hrs) through the American
Academy
of Continuing Medical Education (AACME).
The course included 12 sessions, each session had 2 lectures
followed by an interactive sessions of at least 2 cases
presentations including discussion of difficult cases through
implementation of international guidelines for treatment & diagnosis
in the different liver diseases.
The lectures were in the main domain of Hepatology eg Portal
hypertension, ascites & HCC then HCV & HBV microbiology & main
protocols of management, up to cholestasis, drug induced &
autoimmune liver disease.
Because we are an endemic area of parasitic diseases, there was a
peculiar session of "immunopathogenesis of Schistosomiasis"
presented by one of the eminent professors; prof Ahmed elGarem.
The course presented the updated data about endoscopic procedures,
new protocols & results in liver transplantation in different
countries even from the surgical point of view.
A course of Radiology & it's implementation in hepatology &
gastroenterology was given by one of the eminent Egyptian
Radiologist Prof Mamdouh Mahfouz.
The pediatric department presented the common, difficult & rarest
cases & their protocol of management with a comparison with US
protocol.
We reached an attendance of 1000 scholars/day with a minimum 500
/day they evaluated lectures as good, v good & excellent with the
session of "portal Hypertension presented by "Mark Thursz" & Roberto
De Franchis" received the highest score of attendance, session
discussion & excellent appreciation followed by the session of
"management of HCV" presented by Mario Mondelli & Alfredo Alberti.
We received a thankful letters from the foreign professors for our
achievement after returning back home.
