Teaching experience

In addition to the teaching duties as a university professor, Dr Zakaria has embarked on several teaching programs in collaboration with the Egyptian government and international bodies. Most prominent is acting as principle investigator of a big training project for doctors, nurses and lab technicians supervised by the ministry of health and funded by the social fund for development in Giza governorate. This was administered by one of Egypt’s most active NGO’s (Nahdet Misr Society) from 1995 till date.

  • Medical education : Boston University, USA 1984

  • Endoscopy training: in Hamburg, with Professor Nib Sohendra from 1989 and thereafter on regular visits.

  • To Rowanda and Cote Devoir in Africa 1997-1998 with the Egyptian minister of health to help the patient community there and to co-operate with doctors.

  • To China to visit Prof Chu to study with him the effect of some herbal therapy on the inflammatory bowel diseases.

General interests

In the faculty of medicine, Dr Zakaria plays active role in most of the faculty activities, as teaching for under and post graduates, participation in examinations and evaluations of candidates.

Publicly, Dr Zakaria is very well connected in Egypt and the Middle East enabling him to make well use of communication modalities through the TV, Radio and Newspapers. He enjoys chat shows and debates with medical and non- medical personnel. He enjoys spreading the basic knowledge and new information to people with regards to diseases and possible early detection so as to raise the awareness of the population towards current important health problems.
